Synopsis:
That day, I turned all the prayer wheels, not for transcendence, merely for a chance to brush your fingertips.

That year, I prostrated along the mountain road, not for acknowledgement, merely to keep close to your warmth.

That time and those times circling the mountain, not for transmigration, merely for meeting you along the way.

——6th dalai lama

那一天,我摇动所有的经桶,不为超度,只为触摸你的指尖;
That day, I turned all the prayer wheels, not for transcendence, merely for a chance to brush your fingertips.
那一年,在山路匍匐,不为觐见,只为贴着你的温暖;
That year, I prostrated along the mountain road, not for acknowledgement, merely to keep close to your warmth.
那一次次的转山,不为修来世,只为途中与你相见。
That time and those times circling the mountain, not for transmigration, merely for meeting you along the way.

——沧央嘉措
——6th dalai lama

The author placed a shortened modified version of a Chinese love poem by the 6th dalai lama here.  Its name is “That Day, That Month, That Year” or maybe “That Day, That Year, That Lifetime”.  I could not find a good translation online so if someone can find a one, please comment and post it for us.

Some more explanation here.  Buddhists believe in the 6 paths of reincarnation and the only way to transcend from them is by becoming a living Buddha.  Of course that’s way too hard, so there’s another way to wash away your sins so you that don’t end up in Buddhist hell.  That is by 转山, or circling around a sacred mountain (6 times!).  This is done while kowtowing with every step, which is what the second line is about.  But the guy in the poem does it not to received forgiveness from Buddha but to stick close to a girl apparently.  The final line is another reference to 转山, the guy is circling the mountain over and over again, but not as cultivation in preparation to become a Buddha in the next life (transmigration), but to meet that girl along the way.  Now if you put this as xianxia instead of buddhism, you get a guy who is cultivating to keep close to this girl rather than for strength, though I have no idea if this interpretation is right.

I got stuck.  I don’t specialize in Chinese literary.  When the language gets flowery, it gets super flowery, otherwise it’s just dense.  I admit my inadequacies at translating this type of work. I apologize, this teaser is cancelled.  That was a couple hours wasted.  I will find something better.  Even 狩魔手记 (Memoirs of a Demon Hunter) by the same author is much much easier to translate, because it’s apparently sci-fi.
